New Orleans Pt. 1 | Pre-Trip & Our First Day

Hey friends! I hope that your weekend was awesome! I must say that my weekend was absolutely incredible. I returned to the place that made me fall in love with Louisiana in the first place. Prior to Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans, I attended Xavier University of Louisiana. And I can admit nearly a decade later that I took my time for granted in New Orleans. I was 17 when I got off the plane to move my entire life to New Orleans. I did not want to go to school so far away from home but somewhere in me I knew that God had a plan. Every time I have returned to New Orleans, I have tried to make the best of memories...because I didn't allow myself the opportunity to do that when I was attending one of the greatest schools in the world. I don't have any regrets. My time in Louisiana...from New Orleans to Baton Rouge made me the woman I am today. Maryland Born & Raised. Louisiana Made...is what I love to say. That was part of my journey!

Here are some photos from before we left for our trip and our first day in the Big Easy:

Started our vacay by having dinner at Pappasitos the night before we left for our trip. I finished packing, washed my hair, painted my nails and fell head over heels in love with the Lorac bronzer. I actually prefer to use it as a highlighter. You can check it out here. I painted my nails with OPI 'First Date at the Golden Gate' (here).

As soon as we landed, I had to have a Pandora's snowball. I didn't get to get one last year when we went to New Orleans so I made sure it was our first stop this year. I used to go to this snowball stand all the time while I was attending Xavier. I ended up getting 1/2 wild cherry and 1/2 grape. Simple and an old favorite.

Checked into our beautiful hotel (Royal Sonesta at the heart of The French Quarter since its on Bourbon Street)! I was mildly excited about the decor at our hotel...the chandeliers and floral arrangements won me over!

We walked down to Jackson Square after getting daiquiris. I also picked up a flower head piece from one of the vendors at Jackson Square. I see her every year but I had to support her this year by picking up my daisy head piece! Don't mind my tennis shoes but when we go to NO, we enjoy walking everywhere. So, I wore my tennis shoes every day except to the wedding (of course). My dress is from Target and my purse is a Chloe inspired saddle bag from Daily Look. I want the tan one, but it is currently sold out.

You can sign up for Daily Look here and check out the saddle bag in black or wine. Both of those colors are in stock.

Babe & I took a stroll to Peaches Records after having dinner at Landry's and I fulfilled my lifelong desire to purchase a vinyl record. I wanted to wait until our trip to New Orleans because I always have wanted to make a Peaches Records. Our first vinyl record had to be a classic. After we made our first purchase, I went online to order The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (one of my favorite albums of all time) vinyl. It is expected to arrive tomorrow! Cannot wait to listen to these! Every time I listen to good music, it reminds me of the many memories I remember with my Dad.

Caught this shot of hubby when we were enjoying the performers and street vendors in Jackson Square. I love him so much! I thank God for allowing him to be what he has been in my life. He is the ultimate family man and provider. I know that he will be a great Dad when our time comes!

Stay tuned tomorrow for photos at the wedding, hubby & I touring the French Quarter on our own, and our trip back to Texas!
