Sweater Weather, Maca Root and Soba Ice Cream

Hey there beautiful girls!  Back with a new blog post to share some of my favorites and something new that I tried at date night last night. Although I wish I could post more frequently here on this platform, I am thankful for the opportunity to stay connected with you all on Twitter and Instagram - as I am able to. I will continue to post on this platform as my schedule allows so that I am able to stay connected to those who do not prefer social media. Not to mention, I think my blog is a great platform to share some of my favorite things and a recap of the past couple weeks.

First up...

This was the first week that is has been cold enough to wear sweaters so I had to bring out this Irish Cream sweater dress from Ann Taylor. I personally find it rewarding to be able to see the results of my active lifestyle in how my clothes fit and contour to my body. I paired my sweater dress with some black knee high boots and black leggings (both, not pictured).

Next up is the Maca Root supplements that I have been enjoying. There are so many health benefits to taking Maca Root supplements daily. I mainly take the Maca Root supplements for the natural source of energy. Waking up 5 days a week at 4:45 am to workut, working an 8-10 hour day and sometimes traveling in between can be exhausting to say the least. Having two cups of caffeine a day was in my opinion a little much for my body. Ideally, I like to only have one cup of coffee or tea a day.

I have been wanting to purchase a GLAMbox for years and it never was a priority for me until my makeup collection started shrinking. As you can probably tell from many of the photos that I post, my makeup routine is fairly simple. I do not change products often and the only new products that I tend to gravitate towards are lip colors. Rather than continue to store my makeup in the Ikea Alex 9-drawer system, I invested in a GLAMbox GLAMluxe makeup box with partial lid. So far, I am in love with this makeup box! Its perfect to store the products that I use in my everyday makeup routine with a few extras. Most of my palettes are still being stored in my Alex drawers since I only use them on special occasions.

On last Saturday, we celebrated my mother-in-love's birthday a couple weeks later as her birthday was the Monday after Thanksgiving. Between her schedule and ours, I am so happy that we were able to get together with a few of her friends to celebrate her special day. We celebrated at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Dallas and because of the early reservation time, it felt like we had the restaurant to ourselves for the early part of our dining experience.

Selfies from here, there and everywhere. I must share that my hair has been growing a lot now that my routine has completely changed for about the past 8 months. I find that it gives me so much versatility with styling and I have been enjoying that. Although I go through phases where I want to cut my hair because it is high maintenance...all it takes is a few good hair days to get me back on track.

Lastly, for date night yesterday, we enjoyed Japanese food, drinks and dessert at Tei-An in the Arts District in Dallas. The highlight of our meal besides the pressed smoked salmon and Japanese Old Fashioned was the Soba Ice Cream with black honey and topped with soybean powder. It was the perfect light treat to end a great dining experience at Tei-An. Babe & I have already agreed that we will be back very soon. It is on the expensive side but its so worth it!

In the Christmas Spirit...

Lip: Lorac Pro Matte Lip Color in French Rose

Hello there beautiful girls. As my Christmas countdown continues, I have to admit that my Christmas spirit is in full swing. I am most looking forward to spending Christmas in Maryland and secretly hoping for a 'white' Christmas. No greater feeling would compare than to be able to spend time with my family while watching the snow fall from the sky through the living room window.

I have one work trip for 2015 to complete next week to Chicago and then my focus will be solely on preparing for Christmas on the East Coast!

To welcome the Christmas spirit, I paired a red turtleneck wool-cashmere blend sweater with my Banana Republic sloan pants (similar). I wore black leather ankle boots that I purchased a few years ago from Zara (similar).

What are you doing to get in the Christmas spirit or are you already there like I am?

Joie de Vivre Means Joy of Living

About a year ago, Hubby & I planned to take a trip to New Orleans again and take a day trip to Baton Rouge to attend a game in Tiger Stadium for the first time as alumni. Although we didn't realize it at the time, we planned the trip for the perfect time. While babe is focusing on finishing up his last few classes of graduate school and us both being busy with work, we deserve some time to relax and release. We were able to do exactly that! There is just something about New Orleans that makes you let your hair down and really enjoy yourself! I remember moving to New Orleans in August 2004 and I fell in love with the city right away.

We once again stayed at the Royal Sonesta New Orleans because its probably our favorite hotel in the city! While it is located on Bourbon Street in the heart of the French Quarter, the hotel is still set up in such a way that allows you to escape what is going on just outside of its doors. We always request a room on a higher floor, courtyard facing - as it creates a barrier for the noise! I honestly had the best sleep I've had in about a month during our trip! No one can complain when they get some great sleep while on vacation. Not to mention, the hotel has a bar, two restaurants, a jazz club, heated pool and coffee shop all on the grounds!

Overall, it was an awesome trip - besides the loss to Arkansas! I wouldn't even know where to begin if I speak any further on the game...so I will move forward. We spent a day tailgating at LSU and attending the game.

The other days were spent enjoying the city, which mainly revolved around enjoying great music and incredible eats! We fell in love with District Donuts! Have you ever had a Monte Cristo sandwich on a donut? Yeah, me either until this trip! Ended up going there a total of three times during the 4 days that we were there.

2 Months on Rewind: Denver, Birthdays & Family Time

Don't call it a comeback but it is quite bizarre to think the last time I blogged was before I went to Austin,  Maryland, Chicago (two times) and Denver. We spent Memorial Day weekend in Austin, Texas visiting our friends - both couples are getting married in 2016! Hubby and I then surprised my sister a few short weeks later and visited Maryland for her 25th birthday celebration! There was no way I was missing that milestone birthday! As for Chicago, I have been there twice for work in a two month span! Two of my favorite people in the world (father-in-law and sister-in-law) were here just about a month ago and we went to the Cowboys game -- even though we lost, it was still a great time. And just two weeks ago, I was in Denver for work and managed to spend some quality time with a great friend of mine, known on the internet as Lipstick & Stockings. Flor and I have been friends for years so it was nice to be able to spend time with her in one of the most beautiful states in the US -- Colorado!

Late summer and early fall is my most favorite time of year. I can honestly say for the past two months, I allowed myself to get completely lost in creating memories with the people that I love and care for. All that to say, it felt awesome to live freely, without care of expectations.

There is no way to include a photo recap of all the 'awesomeness' that has taken place since September and let alone since I turned 29 a couple weeks ago! So we will call this the highlight reel!  The highlight reel still has 70+ photos! If you follow me on Instagram, there are a lot more photos there - even though I still managed to miss quite a bit of what happened just living in the moment.

Anyways, enjoy this post and hopefully at some point I can return to regularly scheduled programming! I also need to move forward with my blog redesign so that I can be inspired more than ever to blog frequently! Its been on my 'to-do list' for an embarrassing length of time. The main cause of the delay is deciding which design of the few I have narrowed down to will fit the content I hope to include on my blog going forward. Fashion, health, lifestyle and beauty! And a little bit of Erika in between!
